Your study space, explained

Terms of use

A straightforward guide to using Nutshell responsibly, keeping control of your work, and understanding the limits of study and AI tools.

Draft updated October 17, 2026

Draft for review. Nutshell’s operator details, privacy contact, retention schedule and applicable jurisdiction still need confirmation before these policies are finalized.

The service and your account

Nutshell provides study organization, focus timers, social study rooms and AI-assisted learning tools. Keep your sign-in details secure and use accurate account information. You are responsible for activity you authorize through your account.

These are proposed terms, pending confirmation of the operating entity, contact details, applicable law and minimum-age requirements. They do not replace any mandatory consumer rights.

Your study materials

You retain your rights in the content you upload or create. You give Nutshell permission to store and process that content as needed to provide the features you request, including extraction and AI processing described in the privacy policy.

Upload only material you are entitled to use. Do not upload someone else’s confidential records or personal information without an appropriate basis. Keep copies of work you cannot afford to lose.

Studying together responsibly

Do not harass others, impersonate someone, send unwanted invitations, upload unlawful material, interfere with the service or try to access another student’s private data. Respect your school’s assessment and academic-integrity rules.

Share room invitations intentionally. Friend requests require acceptance. Social timers and leaderboards are motivational tools, not proof of attendance, identity or academic performance.

AI and study guidance

AI output may be incomplete, inaccurate or unsuitable for your course. Review generated notes, flashcards, explanations and extracted handwriting before relying on them. Nutshell does not guarantee grades, exam results or a particular learning outcome.

Use study guidance as a starting point and verify important facts with course materials or a qualified teacher. AI features are not professional medical, legal or financial advice.

Subscriptions, credits and cancellation

Available plans, prices, billing periods, trials and included usage are shown in the pricing and checkout screens. Review those details before confirming a subscription. Usage limits and AI credits are enforced by the account’s plan.

Manage an existing subscription from Settings → Billing. Renewal and cancellation terms are those shown at checkout and in the billing portal. Any refund policy must respect mandatory rights and still needs operator confirmation in these draft terms. Test-mode checkout is not a real payment; a trial or test subscription does not establish a permanent free entitlement.

Group subscriptions are not currently offered by these terms. A proposed group plan requires its own pricing and membership conditions before launch.

Availability and external services

Features may be interrupted for maintenance, network problems or changes to external services. Third-party music, calendars, file services and AI providers have their own availability and terms. A focus timer cannot guarantee that other applications or websites will be blocked.

We may need to restrict misuse or access that threatens other users or the service. The final terms must specify the notice, appeal and account-closure process, subject to applicable law.

Privacy and getting help

Read Privacy & student data for an explanation of stored work, AI processing, analytics, calendar links and social visibility. Canceling a subscription does not automatically delete all account data.

The operator’s support address, complaint process, jurisdiction and data-request contact still need to be confirmed before these terms are finalized. This draft does not waive rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
